In this article, you can learn:
- How to find out if you qualify for prescription weight loss medication online.
- What to expect from the support tools included in Dr. B’s holistic prescription weight loss program, Shed It.
- How much prescription GLP-1 treatment costs for those with or without health insurance coverage.
Science confirms that only about 50% of our weight is within our control. That means exercise and nutrition only get us so far. Hormones and other metabolic processes change with age, potentially packing on pounds. Finally, if we’ve dieted to lose weight only to regain it, we’ve changed our muscle-to-fat proportion—not for the better.
The good news? Prescription GLP-1 weight loss medications can support our efforts, reducing the blood sugar levels, inflammation and hormonal processes that weigh bodies down. And with Shed It, you get these medications with unlimited provider support and science-backed optimization tools.
What do you get with Shed It?
Other programs may consider total pounds lost as the only goal. But we crafted Shed It with whole-body health in mind. That means helping you articulate what you value most—like travel, playing with your kids, or using your body for your work. Then, improving your health so you can do more of the things you love.
Yes, our medical weight loss program will help you shed pounds. But it will also help you shed habits that keep you from living your best life.
Shed It includes:
- A monthly consultation with a licensed provider.
- A prescription for the GLP-1 medication that’s best for your body and budget.
- Unlimited support check-ins with medical providers and the Dr. B team to address any questions or concerns.
- Yearly blood work lab fees, as required.
- Dedicated pamphlets, emails and articles teaching you how to safely and confidently inject your medicine at home.
- Timely email and text reminders to make sure you safely stay on our clinical course.
- A colorful Shed It patient packet loaded with science-backed tips about medication safety, injection instructions, goal setting, action plans and more.
- Exclusive articles written by health writers and reviewed by Dr. B medical advisors.
- Weekly emails covering nutrition, fitness, mental health, financial savings and more.
- Offers from our partners for in-person and at-home fitness and wellness programs.
How much does Shed It cost per month?
Your monthly cost is calculated by your Shed It program fee plus your medication cost.
The Shed It program fee is $145 per month. It includes all the clinical care and program support listed above. The price does not change if your medication type or dosage changes.
Your medication cost is determined by the type, form, and dosage of the prescribed medication. Also, whether you pay through insurance coverage or out-of-pocket (self-pay).
For patients with insurance coverage, medication costs are the prescription copay set by your insurance provider. Medication costs for self-pay patients vary and may increase or decrease as you change medication dosage levels.
See below for a medication breakdown, or get a detailed look at costs on our Shed It pricing page.

What medications does Shed It offer?
Dr. B offers three types of GLP-1 weight management medication: Liraglutide, Semaglutide and Tirzepatide. Liraglutide and Semaglutide mimic the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) hormone naturally made in the body. Tirzepatide mimics GLP-1 and the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) hormone.
These hormones slow digestion, so food takes longer to leave the stomach. They control how much insulin we secrete, which helps lower blood sugar levels. Some studies suggest they have an anti-inflammatory effect. GIP may also increase overall metabolism.
By mimicking these hormones around the clock, GLP-1 receptor agonist medications can help us feel fuller, eat less, have steady blood sugar levels, increase metabolism, and reduce inflammation. Along with a healthy diet and exercise, studies show patients can lose 5-20% of their starting body weight in around one year of taking injectable GLP-1 medications! Medical conditions like high blood pressure or blood sugar often improve, too!
Medications for those with health insurance coverage
If you have health insurance, use our free online benefits checker to learn if your plan will pay for brand-name weight loss auto-injecting pens. If approved for coverage (and treatment), your medication price will be the prescription copay determined by your insurance plan. A provider will send your prescription to your chosen pharmacy for pickup and copay payment.
Options for those with insurance include:
- Wegovy®*: This weekly injection contains Semaglutide as its active ingredient. It comes as an auto-injector pen that you use once and discard.
- Ozempic®*: This weekly injection contains Semaglutide as its active ingredient. It comes in a prefilled pen used for multiple injections. (A new needle is attached before each injection.)
- Zepbound®* or Mounjaro®*: These weekly injections contain Tirzepatide as their active ingredient. Both come in prefilled autoinjector pens that you use once and discard.
- Saxenda®*: This daily injection contains Liraglutide as its active ingredient. It comes in a prefilled pen used for multiple injections. (A new needle is attached before each injection.)
Medications for self-pay patients (those without insurance coverage)
If you’re approved for treatment but do not have prescription coverage, your provider can prescribe a few self–pay options:
- Wegovy® (Semaglutide) pens: Prescriptions for Wegovy® autoinjector pens can be sent to NovoCare, where patients finalize payment and home delivery. All dosage levels cost $499 per month.
- Zepbound® (Tirzepatide) vials: Prescriptions for Zepbound vials can be sent to LillyDirect, where patients finalize payment and home delivery. Medication costs are $349-$499 per month and are available in dosages up to 10mg. Patients can pay with their HSA/FSA card at checkout!
- Compounded sublingual Semaglutide: This daily oral medication is produced and shipped by a licensed pharmacy. Medication costs start at $72 per month, and patients pay for their medication and finalize delivery details with Dr. B. (Note: Sublingual Semaglutide is less effective than injectable GLP-1 medications. But it’s a helpful alternative for those who cannot inject medications.)
- Compounded injectable Liraglutide: This daily injection medication is produced and shipped by a licensed compounding pharmacy. Medication costs are $141-$209 per month, and patients pay for their medication and finalize delivery details with Dr. B.
Does Shed It happen entirely online?
Telehealth laws differ by state. Most patients can take their consultation by chat. But depending on where you live, you may have to consult with your weight loss doctor online via video. We also let you choose to meet with a provider via video consultation if that will increase your confidence in your experience!
Otherwise, program updates and resources are delivered via email. And if you request to talk to a provider during the program, they may text or call until they’ve answered your questions or concerns.
Is Shed It run by doctors?
Yes! Licensed medical professionals—including doctors, registered nurses and licensed pharmacists—handle all medical aspects of our prescription weight loss treatment. The Dr. B support team handles the technical side.
Our consultations have been designed by medical pros who follow all state and federal rules and regulations. They only prescribe medication if they review your consultation and decide it is safe and appropriate. Sometimes, they may request more information or time to review your blood work to confirm everything is good to go.
As with any medication, GLP-1 medications can potentially cause uncomfortable side effects—especially in the early days. If you have any concerns throughout your program, you can talk to a medical provider or chat with the Dr. B support team.
How do I know if I qualify?
With Shed It, you can get prescription weight loss medication online if you’re in the US, over 18 and have a body mass index (BMI) of or above 27. Most patients only qualify for health insurance coverage if they have a BMI of/above 30, or they have a BMI of/above 27 and a qualifying comorbidity.
Not everyone can take these medications—even if their BMI qualifies. The only way to find out is to start an online weight loss consultation.
- You’ll share your medical history, health problems and body weight concerns. You may be required to take a video consultation, depending on your state. Otherwise, your consultation will occur entirely via chat (unless you choose to meet a licensed healthcare professional via video).
- A licensed provider will review your information. If you’re approved for Shed It, they’ll send a prescription for four weeks of weight loss medication to the appropriate pharmacy and email you with details.
- If prescribed a compounded medication, you’ll pay your medication fee to Dr. B and we’ll organize medication shipment. If prescribed a brand-name auto-injector pen, you’ll pick up and pay for your prescription at your chosen pharmacy. If prescribed Zepbound® vials with LillyDirect or Wegovy® pens with NovoCare, you’ll complete your payment and shipment details on their website.
- Dr. B will send weekly support emails on medication safety, injection tips, nutrition and fitness and more.
- When it’s time to do blood work or take your next follow-up consultation, Dr. B will email you!
